Protecting our ecosystem is a priority for many winegrowers. Sustainable and organic farming practices to protect our earth, air, water and soils are at the forefront of many wineries. Focusing on long-term sustainable practices also enhances the flavor profiles of the grapes. Learning from farming techniques from his grandfather, renowned winemaker Fred Cline makes socially and environmentally conscious wines with, Farmhouse Wines.
Fred and Nancy Cline of Cline Cellars have partnered with Bob Cannard to create the Green String Farm and Institute in Petaluma, CA. Bob Cannard and Fred Cline wanted to make clean wines. The wanted to make wines from vineyards that did not have chemicals and were naturally processed.
Alongside the vineyards they started Green String Farms. Students from around the world come here to learn The Green String way. It is all about practicing natural methods of farming that promote the biodiversity of the soil. They do not use herbicides or pesticides. Using only natural elements, they incorporate the use of sheep and goats to remove weeds, they use certain insects to control pests and use natural compost to turn over the soil.
At Green String Farms they started an internship program to get people interested in natural farming. Many of the students/interns have gone on to start their own natural farms.
Farmhouse wines are quality, affordable and sustainable wines. The grapes are pure and clean. You can enjoy the wines knowing that it is a sustainable product. On the label you find a picture of the schoolhouse on the property of Green String Farms. The students use the schoolhouse as a library to study and learn about sustainable farming.
