High atop Mount Veeder, Donald Hess found his winery in 1978. Situated 2000 feet above Napa Valley, Donald Hess gave meaning to Napa’s mountain wines. He had the instinct and vision to know Mount Veeder was going to make great wines.
Donald Hess always had an affinity for the earth and the land, so when he purchased 900 acres, he only planted 300. Leaving the rest untouched to preserve the natural wildlife and ecosystems. Today Donald’s wineries span the globe in Australia, South Africa and Argentina.
Donald Hess recently transitioned the management and ownership of Hess Family Wine Estates to his son-in-law Tim Persson and his daughter Sabrina. Together they both represent the fifth generation of the Hess Family.
I had the opportunity to visit the winery in 2018 and was immediately drawn into the property, the wines, the culinary experience and breathtaking private art collection. The property is a must visit in Napa Valley for any food, wine and art lover.
Recently I was sent samples of The Hess Collection’s new generation of wines, Panthera Russian River Valley Chardonnay and Lion Tamer Napa Valley Red Blend. Creating a luxury line within the Hess Collection, the wines have their own label and branding.
