The American West has never been as luxurious as Magee Homestead. Imagine driving through Wyoming, passing through a majestic national forest and then encountering the great plains of the wild west, only to find tucked away a luxury ranch unlike any other. Magee Homestead is an ultra-luxurious hidden gem that is waiting to be discovered.
Magee Homestead is set amongst the breathtaking Western landscapes of Wyoming between the Sierra Madre Mountains and the Medicine Bow National Forest. The resort is set on Brush Creek Ranch which encompasses 30,000 acres of a working cattle ranch where you are submerged in the prairies, mountains, rivers, and forests, in the center of the real American West.
Magee Homestead is an adults-only Relais & Chateaux and Forbes 5-star property. This luxury hideaway in Wyoming has a sharp focus on culinary and wine experiences. Magee is the ideal getaway for foodies and oenophiles. In addition to their daily gourmet food and wine program, they hold special wine and culinary weekends throughout the year. Be sure to check out their calendar by clicking here.
We were overjoyed to have spent four days at Magee for their Colgin Cellars food and wine experience. For those in the know, Colgin is a high-end cult Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Their Chief Operating Officer and Master Sommelier Paul Roberts was there hosting the entire weekend.
There is nothing more all American than a ranch experience. We went to Magee to live out our cowboy/cowgirl fantasy. We encountered an exclusive ranch experience where we could be as adventurous as we liked, at the same time we indulged our taste buds and wine passion with its exclusive wine and culinary weekend experience with Colgin Cellars.
Come to Magee for all that it has to offer; food, wine, adventure, relaxation, and rejuvenation. Magee has it all with the most hospitable staff. They are genuinely committed to giving you a memorable experience. The ranch lacks nothing in terms of luxury, but one thing that remains close to our heart is the hospitality and care of the staff. They went above and beyond to make sure every comfort was taken care of during our stay.
There are nine historic and luxurious cabins that were first used in the late 1800s by the original homesteaders. The cabins have been preserved and restored and are tastefully designed with a chic western flair. Dark rich logs line the walls, and the earth tones welcome you in with a very homey feel. The varied mix of textures and prints make the cabin cozy, comfortable and intimate. The original artwork around the cabin is designed with a nod to Magee’s rich history.
My favorite pass time after returning from one of the many activities was coming back to the cabin and cuddling up in their Pendleton wool blankets on their cozy leather butterfly chair with the warm feel of the soft cowhide textured rug at my feet. On a vacation, there is nothing more important than the bed. At Magee, their beds are plush, supportive, and extremely comfortable; giving you a restful night’s sleep for your mind and body.
Relax & Renew
One of the most glorious ways to start your day is to way up early, feel the morning dew as you see the cows grazing in the meadows. The ranch is so peaceful in the morning, and it is the perfect time for a bit of yoga and meditation. Just a few steps from our cabin, I walk over a small bridge that takes me to the yoga yurt. You hear the creek rambling below the yoga yurt, birds chirping and cows mooing as you find a peaceful spot on your Manduka yoga mat. The yoga yurt is the perfect place to ground your mind, body, and soul before the days’ activities begin.
After a full day of activities(fishing, hiking, archery, shooting, horseback riding, etc.), coming back to the spa and grotto is the perfect way to unwind. The spa has an assortment of wellness offerings, set in an all-encompassing wilderness setting.
The splendid thing about Magee is that you can be as active as you choose. Outdoor adventures are awaiting each guest with an activity that is customized to you and your schedule. You can do as many or as little as you want on any one given day. The staff will help you design your custom outdoor recreation retreat with equestrian activities, fly-fishing, shooting sports, archery, mountain biking, hiking, and ranger tours. Our typical day included one activity in the morning and one in the afternoon, with lots of free time in between. You will be amazed at all the unexpected adventures that await.
After our long hike at Medicine Bow(which by the way was one of the most breathtaking hikes we have ever done), we would come back to the lodge and take a dip in the pool, relax in the grotto, unwind in the lodge with a glass of wine or curl up to the crackling fireplace along the creek. There are so many hidden, quiet, and secluded spaces throughout the ranch.
World-Class Culinary Experience
Often the most memorable vacations are the ones that satisfy the soul and the palate. At Magee, you will indulge your gourmet senses to the fullest. Chef AJ Buchanio delivers a thoughtful and customized farm to table approach with only the freshest and locally sourced ingredients. Magee is a haven for foodies and oenophiles offering delicious cuisine from their rich Western heritage.
Many of the fresh ingredients are sourced directly from Magee’s greenhouse. The meals are elegantly prepared and presented. Breakfast is served in the main lodge with fresh homemade bread, pastries, jams, and a selection of a la carte items. Our favorites were the fresh juices, smoothies, and tonic. Lunch is casual and served in the restaurant that is adjacent to the pool. Dinners were decadent and indulgent. Chef AJ paired the dinners with the most dramatic and colorful sunsets over the horizon, as we often had our dinners on the patio.
Let’s not forget about the wine and cocktails. After a day of activities, we would return to the main lodge for Champagne or cocktails before dinner. Craft cocktails are made to order and the wine list is expansive from around the globe. Magee provides all guests at any time during the year with personal sommeliers during their visit to help educate and select wines for you.
A Sneak Peek – The Farm At Brush Creek
We had the opportunity to get a sneak peek of the opening of The Farm at Brush Creek. The Farm is an expansive property with views that look out for miles and miles. Here they offer premier “seed to table” culinary experiences, from Brush Creek Brewery, Brush Creek Distillery, The Cheyenne Club, Medicine Bow Creamery, Brush Creek Greenhouse, Brush Creek Cellars, Spirit Vault, The Bakery, and The Saddle Barn. Beneath The Farm lies a haven for wine lovers, a 94-yard tunnel housing thousands of the most exclusive wines available.
At The Cheyenne Club, Executive Chef Angus McIntosh serves the freshest Ranch sourced cuisine. We had the most delectable meal with a seed to table approach, paired with a verticle of “cult” Napa Cabernet Sauvignon from Colgin Cellars. It was a dining experience unlike any other we have experienced. The wine, food, and the backdrop of the gorgeous The Cheyenne Club was an evening that was one of a kind experience. For our next visit, we hope to cook alongside Chef Angus as he offers weekly cooking demonstrations, where you can cook alongside the master chef himself.
