So you can sit at home in your yoga pants and watch the Oscars by yourself or you can glam up and throw the most dazzling, festive, and stylish party of the year. I love throwing parties and the Oscars are no exception. Throwing an Oscar viewing party is a lot easier than you think. So here is a step by step guide to planning a glitzy party that your friends are sure to remember and enjoy. The Oscars are only a few days away, but if you are as cool as a cucumber, like me, then darlings there is plenty of time to throw a memorable affair. Just one tip, I am not going to lie, the key to a successful Oscars party will be the Champagne, the wine and the cocktails. So skip ahead to that section if you like, I wont mind.
Invite Your Friends
Invite lots of your friends. Send them a glitzy Oscars invitation. Check out Punchbowl’s free glittery invites to impress your friends. Then have your guests dress up in their comfortable yet chic attire, or an even better idea would be to have everyone come dressed as their favorite movie star.
Set The Scene
Inaugurate your Academy night by rolling out the red carpet for your glamorous friends. The red carpet adds a special Hollywood flair to set the stage for a fun night. Red carpets are available through party rentals or even a local Party City. Then set up the viewing area. Bring out the gold and go bold. Glitter, gold, sparkles and shine are perfectly fine for the Oscars. Set a red, black and gold theme. Decorate with candles, balloons, stars, and scents. Find old movie reels and small gold Oscar replica statues to help set the vibe. Lastly create a playlist that has the Oscar nominated songs, and then add other nostalgic Hollywood music mixed in with pop music. The goal is to set a fun festive upbeat mood with some background music, or for all you talented singers out there, Karaoke to your favorite Oscar nominated songs.
Now to get to my most favorite part of planning, stock up on Champagne and wine and create your cocktail recipes. This year the Academy made it super easy and super exciting for me to pick my Champagne and wine of choice. At the Oscars ceremony and at the Governor’s Ball, the Academy’s official Oscar after-party, Piper Heidsieck is the exclusive champagne that will be poured along with the wines of Francis Ford Coppola. So drink like the stars for the night and stock up on Piper-Heidsieck Champagne and Coppola Wines.

An absolute must to begin any movie night is popcorn. Find some fun old-fashioned red and white popcorn boxes(available at Party City) to give your party a fun movie theater feel. Then offer up some options by presenting your guest with various toppings for their popcorn, like truffle butter, chili seasoning, or pesto and cheese. For the appys and entrees get creative with some classic recipes and give your dishes some personality by giving them movie inspired names. Label the dishes with gold edged placeholders as you serve them on the table . For appetizers you can serve Samosas for a tribute to Lion and Shrimp Skewers can be labeled Manchester of the Seafood. For dinner a sure-fire hit will be La La Lasagna. For dessert you will have to stop into your local Indian restaurant or grocery store and pick up Saroo’s favorite sweets, Jalebi’s, in the movie Lion. You can also serve mooncakes for dessert in honor of the nominated movie Moonlight.
There you go!! The makings of a glamorous night of fashion and fun. See you on the Red Carpet.
