Today the legendary French Champagne house Piper-Heidsieck revealed its Art-Deco inspired limited edition magnum to commemorate the Golden Age of Hollywood. Piper-Heidsieck will be the sole Champagne served during the 90th Oscars Ceremony and the Governors Ball.
To mark this special 90th year, they have created a gorgeous magnum size bottle with a 360-degree golden appliqué mirroring the Art-Deco architecture of the legendary theaters of Los Angeles. Each bottle is engraved with “90th Oscars” in elegant golden lettering. The Piper-Heidsieck limited edition magnum features the House signature Cuvèe Brut.
The house has long supported cinema with boldness and grandeur, dating back to 1933, when a bottle of Piper-Heidsieck appeared in SONS OF THE DESERT, the debut film of Laurel and Hardy. In 1964, Piper-Heidsieck celebrated Rex Harrison’s Oscar for his role in MY FAIR LADY with a tailor-made 48-liter bottle that was literally as tall as the 5-foot-10 actor. Piper-Heidsieck continues to support the enrichment and preservation of film heritage through the French Cinémathèque and has been the official champagne of the International Cannes Film Festival for more than two decades.
I was honored to be a part of the unveiling of the new Magnum bottle. Select NYC media were invited to The Tuck Room for a glamorous breakfast to debut this sexy bottle. The lavish breakfast included lavender, scrambled eggs, and my favorite Eggs Benedict with salmon and caviar, all perfectly paired with Piper’s Champagne. Shortly after we were asked to move into the iPic Theater to watch a special live presentation of the 2018 Oscar Nominations. This is no regular theater, iPic is an upscale theater that features loungey seats with their own tables for sweets, popcorn, beer, wine and cocktails. Lastly Jonathan Boulangeat, Champagne Ambassador for Piper-Heidsieck perfectly sabered the first bottle of the “90th Oscars” limited edition magnum.
Piper-Heidsieck was created in 1785 by Florens-Louis Heidsieck who aimed to create a wine worthy of a Queen, Piper-Heidsieck is one of France’s oldest Champagne houses. With a grand history, Piper-Heidsieck has been synonymous with excellence, boldness, and grandeur for over 230 years. One of the world’s most awarded Champagnes, Piper-Heidsieck
So more about the Champagne; the wine is festive, seductive, celebratory and romantic. Sparkling gold in color with fine bubbles, there are notes of almond, hazelnut, apple and citrus. It is lively and fresh on the palate with depth and elegance through to the finish.
