Today October 20th, 2017 is the eighth annual World Champagne Day, a celebration of bubbles. There are many beautiful sparkling wines around the world, but only Champagne is from Champagne France, the region that produces the most famous of all sparkling wines. World Champagne Day is one of my favorite days to discover, explore, and drink all things Champagne.
Champagne, located on chalky hills just an hour east of Paris covers 34,000 hectares and is divided into four regions; Montagne de Reims, Vallée de la Marne, Côtes des Blancs and Côte des Bar. Champagne is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a region that is a must visit for all wine lovers.
Start off the weekend by gathering a few friends and sipping this effervescent, sparkling wine. I can’t think of a wine that is more fun, joyous and celebratory. Remember you don’t need Champagne Day to pop open a bottle. Champagne can be enjoyed anytime of day(morning or night) or anytime of the week. Celebrate everyday and celebrate life with a bottle of Champagne.
This past week I had the opportunity to taste some of the best Champagnes and meet some incredible Champagne producers at the Skurnik Champagne Celebration at La Sirena in NYC. Skurnik is a premier importer of fine wine and spirits and is most well-known for elevating the grower Champagne movement, long before it was fashionable. I have listed below just a sampling of some of my favorite grower Champagnes. Grab some of these bottles and celebrate World Champagne Day. Cheers!!
